Medicinal Mushrooms in Integrative Oncology

Integrative oncology can be defined as the rational, evidence based combination of conventional therapy with complementary interventions into an individualized treatment protocol. Medicinal mushrooms such as Ganoderma (ling zhi), Turkey tail (coriolus, yun zhi) and Cordyceps (dong chong xia cao) have used to modulate the immune system and improve the quality of life of cancer patients. Learn which mushrooms reduce the toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and which have activity against breast and prostate cancer cells, and which can improve drug outcomes. Andrew Gaeddert will discuss research and clinical experience helping cancer patients with medicinal mushrooms. Case studies will be presented.

Chinese Herbal Medicine for Treatment of Blood Deficiency-Misha Cohen (rebroadcast)

This material was originally presented by Dr. Misha Cohen at Health Concerns Symposium 2016 in Berkeley, California. In this session, Dr. Cohen will present case studies that showcase the use of herbal formulas, especially Marrow Plus, for blood deficiency (xue xu) and related patterns. Simple and complex cases from her Integrated Chinese Medicine practice will be presented. She will show how to use these formulas to address Chinese diagnostic patterns and how they can be
integrated with Western medicine treatments.

Misha Cohen, a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturist, is the Clinical Director of Chicken Soup Chinese Medicine, Executive Director of the MRCE Foundation, and Research Specialist of Integrative Medicine at the University of California Institute for Health and Aging, all in San Francisco. She is also an elected Fellow to the National Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She has been practicing traditional Asian medicine for the past 38 years.
