Medicinal mushrooms such as Ganoderma (ling zhi), Cordyceps (dong chong cia cao), Poria (fu ling), Coriolus (yun zhi) and Shiitake are growing in popularity. Best known for their effects on the immune system and cancer, mushrooms are also used for weight management and treatment of cardiovascular disease, hepatitis, infertility and diabetes.

In this class, we review indications and contra-indications for medicinal mushrooms on the basis of Western research and traditional Chinese medicine. We also cover preparation of medicinal mushrooms and the types of products on the market including whole mushrooms, extracts and mycelia products and evaluate the research and clinical findings. We learn how to combine mushrooms with herbs, nutrition and pharmaceuticals and the importance of dosing. We also cover miraculous claims versus realistic results that can be expected in an American Clinic.

Medicinal mushrooms have long been a part of Oriental medicine. Practitioners will have patients taking these products therefore it behooves them to understand how they fit into a treatment. Class includes 1 year access to:

  • recorded class
  • class reading material
